How did Luna 25 land on the moon?
Luna 25, also known as Luna-Glob lander, was a Russian lunar lander mission by Roscosmos. It was planned to land near the lunar south pole, specifically in the vicinity of the crater Boguslawsky. The mission aimed to explore the Moon and gather valuable scientific data.
The Luna 25 mission launched on August 10, 2023, at 23:10 UTC. It was launched atop a Soyuz-2.1b rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia's far eastern Amur Region. After the launch, the spacecraft entered lunar orbit on August 16.
However, unfortunately, the mission encountered a failure during an orbital maneuver and the lander crashed on the Moon's surface on August 19 at 11:57 UTC. This resulted in the unsuccessful landing of Luna 25.
Although Luna 25 was a failed mission, it was significant as it was the first lunar lander that the Russian space agency Roscosmos had sent to the Moon. It was also intended to be the first lander to successfully land on the lunar south pole, which would have provided valuable insights into that region of the Moon.
